PITTSBURGH, PA — November 2, 2025 — La Escuelita Arcoiris, Pittsburgh’s only Spanish immersion preschool, invites the community to a vibrant Día de Muertos celebration, a family-friendly festival honoring life, culture, and tradition through art, music, and togetherness that is free for families to attend.

The event will take place Sunday, November 2, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Post Office Parklet (1800 Murray Ave, Squirrel Hill). Co-hosted by La Escuelita Arcoiris, the Squirrel Hill Urban Coalition, Mexico Lindo, and Riverstone Books, the festival will transform the parklet into a colorful gathering of music, crafts, and community.

Guests can enjoy live performances by Coro Latinoamericano, the Palenque Dance Troupe, Sunburst Music Studio, and talented La Escuelita alumni. Family activities will include cultural crafts, face painting, and food trucks featuring authentic Latin flavors. The highlight of the event will be a lively Day of the Dead parade led by the Timbeleza Steel Drummers at 1:30 p.m., filling the streets with rhythm and color.

Keynote Speaker: Melanie Marie Boyer

This year’s celebration will feature a keynote address by Melanie Marie Boyer, CEO of the Pittsburgh Metropolitan Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (PMAHCC) and a passionate advocate for Hispanic empowerment and cultural preservation. Boyer will speak about the importance of representation, community, and the economic and cultural contributions of Latinos in our region and nation.

“Día de Muertos is a powerful reminder that our heritage is alive in everything we build — in our art, our families, our dreams, and our communities,” said Boyer. “La Escuelita Arcoiris exemplifies how language and culture connect generations and strengthen the fabric of Pittsburgh’s multicultural identity.”

A Celebration with Purpose

Proceeds from the event will support La Escuelita Arcoiris’ Scholarship Fund, which provides tuition assistance for families in need, ensuring that children from all backgrounds can access high-quality, culturally immersive education.

“Our goal is to make bilingual, multicultural learning accessible to all families,” said Ellen Tafel, La Escuelita’s Administrator. “This festival not only celebrates life and memory, but also helps sustain opportunities for the next generation.”
