New York City, Oct 12 (EFE).- US President Donald Trump asserted Sunday from Air Force One en route to Tel Aviv that the war between Israel and Hamas “is over.”
The president was asked about a comment by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu suggesting that Israel’s military operations had not completely ended.

“The war is over. Okay? You understand that?” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One shortly after departing Washington for the Middle East.

Trump, who will meet with the families of the hostages on Monday and later address the Israeli parliament, also said he believes the ceasefire in Gaza will hold.

In that regard, the Republican leader said he believes the ceasefire is “going to hold. I think people are tired of it. It’s been centuries.”

During a lengthy press conference on the plane, the president said that both sides in the conflict are now happy.

The agreement includes the release of hostages, the partial withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza, and the opening of humanitarian channels for the supply of food and medicine, marking a temporary ceasefire in the region after two years of violence.

“People are going to behave, everybody knows their place,” he said. “Everybody is happy, whether it’s Jewish or Muslim, or the Arab countries, every country is dancing in the streets.”

Trump also plans to travel to Egypt, where he and President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi will lead a summit to discuss the Gaza peace process with more than 20 countries. EFE
