Los Angeles, Sep 5 (EFE).- The Department of Homeland Security said Friday that the 2021 Temporary Protected Status designation will end on Nov 7 and asked beneficiaries who have no other legal basis to remain in the country to “prepare to return to Venezuela.”

The announcement affects approximately 267,000 Venezuelans whose benefits were set to expire on Sep 10.

They now have until November to prepare for their return to Venezuela, following Wednesday’s announcement of the termination of the protection granted in 2021 by former President Joe Biden (2021-2025), as the law requires the US to provide 60 days’ notice of its decision to rescind TPS.

“If you are an alien who is currently a beneficiary of TPS for Venezuela under the 2021 designation, you should prepare to return to Venezuela if you have no other lawful basis for remaining in the United States,” the Citizenship and Immigration Services said Friday in a statement.

Additionally, the US government has invited Venezuelans affected by the termination of the immigration benefit to use the CBP Home application if they intend to leave the United States.

A federal judge in California is evaluating a lawsuit filed by a group of Venezuelans affected by the termination and the TPS Alliance, in which they allege that the termination is illegal.

The lawsuit aims to safeguard two groups of Venezuelans who were granted TPS by former President Biden: approximately 250,000 in 2021 and around 350,000 in 2023.
