L’Oreal Chemist Dr. Rosario-Meléndez Featured in Science Center’s Women in STEM Series

What is the science behind makeup? Carnegie Science Center is hosting a conversation with L’Oreal Associate Principal Chemist and Project Leader Roselin Rosario-Meléndez, Ph.D. to find out.

Roselin is a Latinx role model, STEM innovator, and an American Association for the Advancement of Science If/Then Ambassador who empowers others through outreach and mentoring. She earned her B.S. in Chemistry at the University of Puerto Rico and a Ph.D. from Rutgers University.

Dr. Rosario-Melendez has worked at L’Oreal USA since 2015. For 4 years she did Lipstick formulation, making contributions to new product invention. Roselin invented Maybelline’s SuperStay MatteInk, an extreme wear lipstick with a comfortable feel. She is currently an Associate Principal Chemist in Face Makeup where she leads a team of scientists.

Roselin secured funding from Johnson & Johnson, published 7 peer reviewed articles, filed 4 patent applications for polymers she invented, and received awards for her research and teaching performances. She was also a graduate mentor teaching basic research concepts and principles.

The Carnegie Science Center Women in STEM Speaker Series introduces inspiring STEM role models who have established themselves as experts in a variety of fields.
