A new initiative that has gone viral on social media is calling on immigrants to join in a peaceful protest this Monday, February 3. The proposal urges inmigrants not to go to work, school, or make purchases that day, with the goal of demonstrating how essential they are to the economy.
What began as a call to action in Washington, D.C., has crossed borders, gaining support in other states such as California, where human rights organizations have expressed their backing. Locally, in Pittsburgh, the initiative has also been shared on social media. Casa San José shared the significance of the day with its followers.

On Monday, February 3, we join the National Day of Action for Immigrants: A Day Without Immigrants. Immigrants are essential to our communities and economy—let’s show our support by:
✔️ Closing businesses for the day
✔️ Refraining from making purchases
✔️ Spreading the word
Together, we can make an impact! 💪🏽
Businesses including Panadería Jazmín, Skin Boutique, and Las Palmas enterprises also plan to participate.

Panadería Jazmín:
We will be closed tomorrow, 2/3/25, in solidarity with our Latino community. We will resume regular business hours on Tuesday, 2/4/25.

“Just as in previous years, today we reaffirm our commitment to the Hispanic community. Las Palmas branches are once again joining the ‘A Day Without Immigrants’ initiative, and our stores will remain closed on Monday, February 3, 2025,” shared Las Palmas on their Facebook page.
The movement has been led by an activist from the Washington, D.C. region who has chosen to remain anonymous. According to him, this action arises from the lack of response from local leaders regarding immigration policies implemented by former President Donald Trump. Additionally, he was inspired by recent demonstrations in Texas, where hundreds of people have taken to the streets to protest for migrant community rights.
The initiative has sparked a debate about the fundamental role of immigrants in various economic sectors and has reinforced the need for a broader dialogue about their rights and recognition within American society.

Skin Boutique shared its support for the initiative:
We will be closed tomorrow in solidarity with our Latino community. We stand united 🤎
As the campaign continues to gain momentum, more individuals and organizations are expected to join the cause, strengthening the message that immigrants are a vital and indispensable part of the country.
