Hello Neighbor, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting refugees and immigrants in Pittsburgh, is responding to the Administration’s indefinite halt to the United States Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP) announced through Executive Orders on Monday, January 20th, 2025.

The organization was founded in 2017 as an  nonprofit supporting recently resettled refugees and immigrants.

As a refugee resettlement agency, Hello Neighbor is deeply concerned by the Trump administration’s executive order which suspends the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP) indefinitely, effective immediately.

Hello Neighbor emphasized the urgent needs of millions of refugees worldwide, calling the order a “renunciation of U.S. leadership and commitment to humanitarian protection and freedom.” It also highlighted how the action prevents thousands of American families from reuniting with their loved ones through the refugee program.

“The refugee program reflects America’s deep commitment to moral and humanitarian leadership, ensuring the world’s most vulnerable are safely resettled. This decision by the Administration leaves countless refugees at risk and undermines vital humanitarian efforts and our ideals as a country,” said Sloane Davidson, Founder and CEO of Hello Neighbor.

According to the organization 100,000 refugees were resettled in 2024. This not only protected vulnerable individuals but also enriched our communities.

A message on their website shared how that the “suspension of USRAP undermines this legacy and endangers investments in rebuilding resettlement efforts.”

Hello Neighbor remains committed to supporting refugees currently in the United States and will continue to advocate for policies that reflect the ideals of compassion and welcome. The organization urges supporters to contact their senators to restore funding for USRAP.
