Los Angeles, Sep 12 (EFE). – The body of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, killed last Wednesday during a university event in Utah, arrived in Phoenix, Arizona, late Friday under heavy security as the city held tributes to honor his memory.

Kirk’s casket landed at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport aboard Air Force Two, the aircraft of United States Vice President JD Vance.

Uniformed military personnel carried the coffin from the plane, with Vance himself helping to load it into the hearse bound for Hansen Mortuary Chapel in north Phoenix, where Kirk had built close ties with the local conservative community and political leaders.

At the headquarters of Turning Point USA, the conservative youth organization Kirk founded, hundreds gathered to leave flowers, candles, and US flags at the entrance.

Dream City Church, where Kirk attended services and occasionally organized political rallies, held a special mass in his honor.

Arizona State University also announced a candlelight vigil for Sep. 15 in memory of the 31-year-old activist, who was the father of two.

Kirk was a close ally of United States President Donald Trump, who announced he would posthumously award him the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor.

Trump also said he intends to attend Kirk’s funeral in Arizona, though the date and location remain undisclosed.

Kirk was fatally shot in the neck while participating in a debate at Utah Valley University, in front of hundreds of attendees. EFE
