As parents, we all want the best for our children: a future full of opportunities, well-being, and success. Without a doubt, one of the most valuable gifts we can offer them is a good education.

As a pediatrician, I believe that the true success of my work does not consist solely in my patients being healthy and free from diseases. My greatest satisfaction is seeing them grow, achieve their goals, complete their studies, and become people who contribute positively to their community and the world.

So that children can develop their full academic potential, they need the support of their families and proper preparation from the early years of life.

The first step is to take care of their health. Regular visits to the pediatrician allow for the timely detection of any condition that may interfere with learning. It is important to verify that children do not have vision or hearing problems, as well as respiratory or cardiac diseases that could affect their development or participation in school activities. It is also essential to ensure that they arrive at school prepared and with development appropriate for their age.

Preparation for school success begins long before the first day of kindergarten. From infancy, reading them stories and sharing moments with books fosters a love for reading and strengthens language development. Likewise, it is important to conduct the recommended tests to detect elevated lead levels, as this exposure can cause developmental delays and learning difficulties.

If a child shows any developmental delay, early intervention can make a big difference. Receiving the appropriate therapies at the right time significantly increases the chances of achieving the goals specific to each stage of growth.

With the return to school, it is also important to reestablish routines before the holidays end. Going to bed and waking up at regular times helps children arrive rested in the classroom. Adequate sleep is essential for growth, learning, and emotional well-being.

During the school year, maintaining stable schedules, establishing a space for doing homework, and strengthening communication between parents and teachers contribute to students’ academic success.

Lastly, we must never forget that the example set by parents is one of the most powerful educational tools. If we want our children to be responsible and respectful, we must act in the same way. If we expect them to limit screen time when they are not doing homework, we must do so as well. If we want them to maintain a healthy diet and a physically active life, the best way is to demonstrate it thru our own actions.

Our children learn much more from what they see than from what they hear. That’s why the example we set for them every day will continue to be one of the best investments in their future.
