Effective prayer

I generally pray every day and at every moment. I was raised Catholic and learned many prayers by heart. Over the years, I have preferred to converse with God in a more spontaneous manner. However, I realized that I almost always gave thanks or asked in prayer, but rarely did both at the same time.

Recently, using the “Holy Bible” app, I followed a plan on effective prayer that impacted me so much that I started putting it into practice immediately.

The proposal uses the acronym P.R.A.Y., which in English means “to pray”:

  • Praise
  • Repent
  • Ask
  • Yield

Praise – This first step invites you to honor God in the way that connects best with you. Some do it by singing; others, by dedicating special moments to Him. In my case, I prefer to praise Him thru service, helping those in need and appreciating the opportunity to do so. And you, how do you praise God?

Repent – After praising, we sincerely acknowledge our faults thru acts, words, or omissions that have offended God or others. Sincere repentance brings forgiveness, peace, and frees from the weight
of guilt.

Ask – It is to present before God our needs, desires, and concerns with humility and with confidence. We can ask for health, strength, wisdom, peace, or for our loved ones. More than focusing on what we lack, this step reminds us that we depend on God and trust that He will respond at the perfect moment.

Yield – After praising, repenting, and asking, we leave our will in God’s hands.
repent and ask, we leave our will in the hands of God. Sigmeans trusting that their plan is better than ours, even when we don’t understand we understand what is happening. That is to say with faith: “Lord, not my will, but yours be done.”

Prayer strengthens our faith and helps us fully trust in God’s plan. When we pray effectively, we find not only a deeper connection with Him but also peace, direction, and hope.
