LOS ANGELES, June 23, 2025 — The Jaime & Blanca Jarrín Foundation (JBJF), in partnership with Los Defensores, has opened applications for its 2025 scholarship program, aimed at supporting Latino college students in Southern California pursuing degrees in law or journalism. Applications are open from June 23 through July 20.
This year’s theme, “The Power of Believing,” emphasizes the life-changing impact of support and mentorship for students from underserved communities. Since 2019, JBJF has awarded nearly $200,000 in scholarships, reinforcing its mission to invest in the next generation of Latino changemakers.
To qualify, students must attend a California-based college, have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and demonstrate financial need. Application requirements include transcripts, a resume, a letter of recommendation, and responses to a short questionnaire.
“Believing in our youth means believing in stronger communities,” said foundation co-founder Jaime Jarrín, MLB Hall of Famer and former Dodgers broadcaster. The scholarships are supported by Los Defensores’ Siempre Contigo community initiative, which promotes access and equity for Latinos.
