This summer, young girls have the chance to develop their football skills and build their confidence at a football camp designed specifically for them.
Zone Coverage Girls Football Camp is a one-day program on Tuesday, July 23, at Moe Rubenstein Stadium (909 Duss Ave, Ambridge, PA 15003). Registration is from 9 to 9:30 am, and the camp runs from 9:30 am to 2 pm. There is a $35 registration fee that includes lunch for the participant, and which will be waived for readers of Pittsburgh Latino Magazine.
This football camp is the perfect opportunity for young female athletes to learn more about the sport and be coached by professionals. Hosted by Felicia Mycyk, a former football player and seasoned coach with decades of experience, the camp will also feature special guest coaches from the NFL and college ranks.
Flag football is gaining in popularity, especially among young people. Coach Mycyk stated that over the last three years, her flag football team had the highest turnout of Latino females to participate in a school sport. One year, her team was 75% Latino.
“We want to give the girls the same opportunities boys have had for years in football,” said Mycyk. “This camp is about empowering young women, building their confidence, and showing them that they too can excel in this sport.”
At the non-contact camp, girls ranging from grades K-12 will learn basic fundamental skills and technique, such as passing, catching, and running with the ball, in addition to position-specific drills and terminology. They will participate in a football combine and end the day playing flag football drills and games.
