A staff member of the Philadelphia International Music Festival (PIMF) has launched a new Spanish-language podcast focused on the French horn and the experiences of musicians who play the instrument.
“Manos a la Trompa,” created and hosted by Arlet Tabares, is designed to share knowledge, inspiration and a broader perspective on horn playing with students, teachers, musicians and fans of the instrument.
Tabares serves as PIMF’s Assistant Operations Director and Chamber Music Intensive Coordinator. She is also pursuing a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Performance (French Horn) at Temple University’s Boyer College of Music and Dance.
Tabares said the idea for the podcast was inspired by her experiences growing up and studying the horn in Cuba, where access to information about the instrument was limited. Conversations with musicians from other parts of Latin America and the Caribbean led her to recognize a similar need among Spanish-speaking horn players.
The podcast aims to provide a space where musicians can share their musical journeys, challenges, questions and career experiences, while connecting horn players across generations, countries and backgrounds.
Although guests may not always speak Spanish, the podcast’s content will be available in Spanish through subtitles, with transcripts provided in both English and Spanish on the website.
The first episode features a conversation with Mexican-born hornist Ernesto Tovar Torres of The Philadelphia Or chestra.
Tabares hopes “Manos a la Trompa” will grow into an educational community where musicians can exchange knowledge, explore questions about their instrument and inspire the next generation of horn players.
