Police Investigate Unusual Parachute Incident at Downtown Pittsburgh High-Rise

The incident happened in the corner of Stanwix and Third Avenue

Authorities are looking into a peculiar early-morning incident where two individuals parachuted from a downtown Pittsburgh skyscraper.

The occurrence took place around 4:45 a.m. on April 9, 2025, at 1 PPG Place near the intersection of Stanwix Street and Third Avenue. According to Pittsburgh Police Zone 2, the pair entered the building, accessed the rooftop, and descended using parachutes. Surveillance footage shows them fleeing in a vehicle shortly after landing.

Detectives from the Downtown Public Safety Center are working to identify the individuals and determine the nature of the incident. While no theft or property damage has been reported, investigators are examining why the individuals accessed the building.

Authorities are asking anyone who witnessed suspicious activity near PPG Place during that time to come forward with information.
